THE STORY OF TOTO AND A FEW LILLIES

Toto, the rabbit, was the saddest of all from his tribe. There were no rabbits of his age he could befriend. One day, Toto decided to leave the lake and move to the big lush jungle with dreams of finding a few friends of his kind. He walked past by a tree and found a snake crawling down from the branches. The snake had big round eyes that looked kind and just. It was thin and covered in sleek gold skin. The grace that fell from its eyes caught Toto's attention.

"Hi, I am Toto. I am new in this jungle. Will you be my friend?" asked the little rabbit.

The snake leaped out from the branches and gleamed at Toto. "Of course, I will. Everyone here calls me Sara, and so can you!"

Toto's flurry ears stood in joy. He had finally made a friend!

"I have another friend whom you may like in this place. Her name is Yana, and she is a fox. Let's go to meet her!" exclaimed Sara, the snake.

They set off deeper in the jungle to look for her. When they reached Yana's house, they found her crying in the bushes. She had fallen off a rock and broken her leg. Although she was a beautiful young fox with eyes very bright, all the crying made her look weak and dull. Toto, the rabbit, felt bad for Yana. He knew what it was like to sit alone and cry and did not want Yana to go through it too. Toto promised Sara that he would take care of her.

Ever since the day Toto had found new friends, he tried not to upset any of them. In fact, the rabbit would bring them fruits from his house and flowers from the lake. Sara and Yana both liked to put the lilies on their head, but it never stayed on Sara's round, silky face. Yana, the fox, tucked them on her ears and walked in the jungle with pride. She was happy to wear lake lilies, and Toto was happiest to have found friends, finally.

One day, while walking off a high place, Toto held Yana and Sara's hands. He was scared that he might fall and break his leg. It was the same cliff Yana had dropped from earlier, so he was sure that she would protect him. Sara, the snake, did not want to take a risk. She let go of Toto's hands and crawled her way away from the cliff, leaving the other two behind. The ridge was getting steeper as they walked out of there. Toto, the rabbit, had never been at a place so high. He held onto Yana's foot so he may not fall off the cliff.

Both of them could have moved past the narrow edge if stayed close enough, but all the attention of Yana was at her lilies. A strong wind was blowing them away. To grab the flying lilies, she moved too fast, too soon. With Yana's mighty push, Toto stumbled with a rock and dropped off the edge. He held onto a stone, waiting for Yana to notice. The wind had taken her lilies away. All upset when she finally looked down, she saw the lilies lying on Toto's head. The rabbit thought his friend was coming to save him, but she only wanted the lilies off his head. Toto unknowingly left his grip, giving himself all to Yana's mercy, but she only took the lilies and tucked them behind her ears.

Whilst falling off the cliff Toto understood what friendships must not be like.
